From consulting to products: why Third Octopus builds the Octo suite

Third Octopus began as a consulting and managed-services company headquartered in Mumbai: cloud, cybersecurity, IT strategy, managed IT and data analytics for enterprises in India, the UK and later the UAE. Running other people's environments day after day teaches you where the gaps are. The products came from those gaps.

The pattern behind every product

Each of the six began the same way. A client had a problem, we solved it with people and scripts, then a second client had the same problem. By the third we were building something we could deploy in hours rather than rebuild in weeks.

  • OctoVault came from ransomware and deletion incidents in Microsoft 365 tenants we managed. Clients needed an immutable, air-gapped copy with in-country residency and recovery points measured in minutes.
  • OctoAssist came from service desks drowning in tickets that a person with access to the monitoring data could have triaged in seconds. We gave the desk a language model grounded in live system data, not in a knowledge base.
  • OctoFlow came from our own consultants. Timesheets filled in on Friday were losing us hours. Capturing work context on the device, privately, and turning it into approved time fixed that.
  • OctoForge came from fabricators of heat exchangers and pressure vessels whose generic ERP could not hold heat numbers, mill certificates, weld logs or milestone invoices, so the real business lived in spreadsheets.
  • OctoDesk came from our own support. Email threads lost context and missed deadlines, so we built the ticketing portal our clients now use, with SLA tracking that pauses when the ball is in the client's court.
  • OctoCred came from India's DPDP Act. Financial-services clients needed to prove consent for one person on one date, and a row in a database that any admin could edit was not proof.

Why we build rather than resell

Three reasons. First, control over where data lives: every product can be deployed in-country and most can be air-gapped, which matters to regulated clients in India and the Gulf. Second, one stack: the products share a server-rendered web architecture on PostgreSQL, so an engineer who supports one can support all six. Third, honesty about scope: because we run them for clients ourselves, we know what each product does and does not do, and we say so on the product pages.

What has not changed

We are still a consulting and managed-services company first. The products are how we make that service repeatable. Senior engineers, accountable delivery and no hand-offs is the promise, and the software exists to keep it.

A product is a solution we were confident enough in to run for ourselves before offering it to anyone else.

All six are described, with FAQs, on the products page. If a problem you have is not on that list yet, tell us. That is how the list got written.
